When the Royal Bank of Scotland decided to outsource its cheque clearing operation to EDS, the challenge was significant: create an entirely new image-based clearing system, in new locations, with new staff and a new set of inter-bank regulations. EDS selected a crack team of business and technical consultants from Alphatec to assist them with this task.

Alphatec was instrumental in the design and implementation of each aspect of the new Royal Bank clearing system - from day 1 capture and validation, through inter-bank data-exchange, CPCS internal processing, posting and reconciliation. Such was the success of the project that EDS later outsourced the provision of live-system support to Alphatec.

Later, when Nat West Bank also outsourced to EDS, Alphatec provided an extensive team of experts to assist EDS with the two-year project to migrate their 4 million items per day system, and then to provide ongoing live support.

Other Banks and organisations have called on Alphatec for specialist technical or business resources over the years. Barclays Bank have used Alphatec consultants for many years to supplement their in-house support and project staff; National Australia Group asked for a redesign of their branch-capture system; and Alphatec now provides UK support for systems written by Carreker, FSS and IBM.
